Interview with Lynne Rutherford, Group Vice President Learning & Development (L&D)

Towards Maturity were delighted to work alongside Brambles to implement a global Learner Intelligence Programme, with the purpose of identifying and building a culture of learning across the business.

The programme was implemented through a facilitation process led by our expert analysts, which allows employees to reflect on how and where they learn as well as the motivators and barriers they experience. This provided Brambles with evidence to support and enhance learning across the organisation.

About Brambles

Brambles is a supply-chain logistics company operating in more than 60 countries, primarily through the CHEP and IFCO brands.

The way the world makes, moves and sells goods is being transformed. Under our CHEP and IFCO brands we help move more goods to more people, in more places than any other organisation on earth. That’s why we can make a real contribution to a smarter, more sustainable future.

Our purpose is to connect people with life’s essentials, every day. Our pallets, crates and containers form the invisible backbone of the global supply chain and the world’s biggest brands trust us to help them transport their goods more efficiently, sustainably and safely.

As pioneers of the sharing economy, we created one of the world’s most sustainable logistics businesses through the share and reuse of our platforms under a model known as ‘pooling’. We primarily serve the fast-moving consumer goods (e.g. dry food, grocery, and health and personal care), fresh produce, beverage, retail and general manufacturing industries. The scale and density of our network means we can be faster and more responsive to our customers’ changing needs.

Top Tips for Building Habits

As learning professionals, we want to design interventions that lead to lasting change. Shifting behaviour involves a process that continues long after the programme finishes. Our research has shown that mature learning organisations are more successful at integrating learning and work, but they don’t abandon formal learning. One of their strategies is to design learning campaigns and programmes that build and encourage new habits.
