Top Quartile Learning Organisations
Towards Maturity's Laura Overton recently interviewed Mike Booth, Learning Technologies Manager at Cable&Wireless Worldwide, to discover what secrets lay behind his 2011 elearning award for outstanding achievement – individual.
Is it possible that there is a connection between Mike's pioneering work within e-learning and the fact that Cable and Wireless have been consistently in the top quartile of the Towards Maturity Index for the past 3 years?
Over the years Cable&Wireless has undergone significant business challenges with mergers and demergers creating a constant environment for change. Mike Booth, who was nominated for his award by Kineo, highlighted his achievements against such a backdrop of change in 3 main areas: championing innovation, delivering business results (Mike has achieved over £5million of savings through e-learning) and his role as an e-learning advocate. Laura believes that there are a number of characteristics that have contributed to Mike’s success over the years:
- Responsiveness
- Resourcefulness
- Practical programmes
- Actively putting the learner first
- Learning through sharing
The influence that Mike has had on colleagues at Cable&Wireless Worldwide, his business and his industry cannot be denied, but his success has not been driven by the latest toys but by hard graft, a clear head for business and a passion for supporting his colleagues in the best way possible.
Note from the Editor - Evidence for Change
We have included this story in our Evidence for Change programme because the impact of the new technology and approach to training upon the trainees and the organisation has been impressive:
- 98.9% of colleagues say the e-learning courses are easy to access and 99.4% say they are easy to use
- 96.4 % say they’re able to put the learning into practice following the course, and
- 95.2% are happy to receive similar training in an e-learning format
